Lovely large paper mache egg presentation from a old collection in France , was made special for the French market at 19th. century and filled with very cute S&H 949 bisque girl and her trousseau.
It was a special easter gift for a young Lady and would preserved many years from her familie before this rare piece comes in the collection of a doll collector who keep it more as 40 years .
The rare large size paper mache egg having delicate decoration of gold paper trim and a nice litho picture at front. Inside fine covered with ecru silk and trim including a lace decoration around both sides of edged.
Filled with Darling 11" ( 29 cm ) S & H doll which has pretty expression of on little girl. She has fine quality of pale bisque and painting socket head with blue glass sleep eyes , fine painted long lashes and widely feathered brows. She has an open mouth with two square upper teeth between her outlined lips. Pierced ears with original earrings and rest of brunette mohair wig over cork pate .
Head mark at back : S H 4 949 ....Germany Simon and Halbig
Has generally all perfect head condition , free of damage , repair , hairline .Note a tiny wig pull chip at her head crown... please see my picture!!
She has her original French composition and wooden fully jointed body with original body finish .
Wearing very nice French costume with red silk velvet jacket and cotton skirt , blouse collar , set of under garments with stocking and French shoes. Finally a lovely silk bonnet ...
The lovely doll owns another sweet silk dress with ribbon decoration and another set of under garments. Also a little box filled with little accessorys ...
All together preserved in the both sides of the pretty large papaer mache egg which has also good condition to age but it is dusty and the gold and litho looks little fade . The inside covered silk has some pale stains and the lace has small damage. Some scratch outside but all around good !
Wonderful and rare treasure for the French market and not only for easter !!!
Egg size are circa 14" x 10" ( 36 x 26 cm )..
